Biography:
Sébastien Bourdon was a French painter born in 1616 and active during the Baroque period. He is known for his historical and religious subjects, as well as his contributions to the development of French Baroque painting. Bourdon spent time in Italy, where he was influenced by the works of Caravaggio and the Roman Baroque style. He returned to France, where he became a prominent figure in the art community and was appointed as a member of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. His works are characterized by dramatic lighting and dynamic compositions, which helped to shape the direction of French art in the 17th century. Bourdon passed away in 1671.
