Shibata Zeshin was a Japanese artist born in 1807 and passed away in 1891, renowned for his contributions to the Edo and Meiji periods' art movements. He was a master of lacquerware, painting, and printmaking, and is particularly noted for his innovative techniques in lacquer art, which combined traditional methods with Western influences. Zeshin studied under the esteemed lacquer artist Koma Kansai II and later under the painter Suzuki Nanrei, which significantly shaped his artistic development.
