Biography:

Sin Saimdang, born on October 29, 1504, in Gangneung, Korea, was a prominent Korean artist and calligrapher of the Joseon Dynasty. She is renowned for her contributions to the art movement of Korean literati painting, which emphasized scholarly and artistic pursuits. Saimdang's work often depicted themes of nature, such as flowers, insects, and landscapes, reflecting her deep appreciation for the natural world. Her legacy is significant as she broke gender norms of her time, being recognized as a talented artist and intellectual in a male-dominated society. Saimdang's influence extended beyond her art, as she was also the mother of the esteemed Confucian scholar Yi I. She passed away on May 17, 1551, leaving a lasting impact on Korean cultural history.
