Suzuki Kiitsu 鈴木其一
Suzuki Kiitsu (1796–1858) was a Japanese painter associated with the Edo period Rinpa school, a movement known for its vibrant colors and decorative style. Born in Edo, now Tokyo, Kiitsu was a pupil of Sakai Hōitsu, a prominent Rinpa artist, and he played a significant role in the revival and continuation of the Rinpa tradition. Kiitsu's work is characterized by its meticulous detail and innovative compositions, often featuring natural motifs such as flowers and birds. His contributions to the Rinpa school helped to sustain its influence into the late Edo period, and his legacy is evident in the works of subsequent generations of artists. Notable works by Kiitsu include his folding screens and hanging scrolls, which are celebrated for their dynamic use of space and color.
