Thomas Le Clear was an American painter born in 1818 and active until his death in 1882. He was a prominent figure in the Realism movement, known for his detailed and lifelike depictions of everyday life. Le Clear gained recognition for his genre scenes and portraits, which often captured the nuances of human emotion and social interactions. He exhibited regularly at the National Academy of Design and was elected an academician in 1859.
