Werner Drewes
Werner Drewes was a German-American artist born on July 27, 1899, in Canig, Germany, and he passed away on June 21, 1985, in Reston, Virginia, USA. He was a prominent figure in the Bauhaus movement, having studied under influential artists such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. Drewes emigrated to the United States in 1930, where he became a founding member of the American Abstract Artists group, significantly contributing to the spread of abstract art in America. His work, characterized by geometric abstraction and vibrant color, played a crucial role in the development of modern art in the United States. Throughout his career, Drewes also served as an educator, teaching at various institutions, including the Brooklyn Museum Art School and Washington University in St. Louis.
