Willem van Mieris

Willem van Mieris, a Dutch painter born in 1662, was a prominent figure in the Rococo movement. He was the son of Frans van Mieris the Elder, a renowned painter, and was trained under his father's tutelage, which significantly influenced his artistic development. Van Mieris became known for his finely detailed genre scenes and portraits, often characterized by their delicate brushwork and intricate compositions. Throughout his career, he was a member of the Leiden Guild of St. Luke, serving as its head multiple times, which underscored his standing in the artistic community. His works were highly sought after by collectors, contributing to the dissemination of Rococo aesthetics in the Netherlands. Willem van Mieris passed away in 1747, leaving behind a legacy that continued to influence Dutch art beyond his lifetime.
