Willi Baumeister
Willi Baumeister was a German painter, born on January 22, 1889, in Stuttgart, and he passed away on August 31, 1955, in the same city. He was a prominent figure in the Modernist movement, particularly known for his contributions to abstract art and his involvement with the avant-garde. Baumeister studied at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, where he was influenced by Adolf Hölzel, and later became a professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. His work was banned during the Nazi regime, labeled as "degenerate art," yet he continued to paint in secret and later played a significant role in the post-war art scene in Germany. Baumeister's legacy is marked by his innovative use of form and color, as well as his theoretical writings on art, which have had a lasting impact on modern art discourse.
