William Page was an American painter born in 1811 and active until his death in 1885. He was associated with the Romanticism movement, known for his portraits and historical scenes that emphasized emotion and individualism. Page studied under prominent artists, including Thomas Cole, and became a member of the Hudson River School, which influenced his landscape work. He was also a founding member of the National Academy of Design and served as its president. His contributions to American art helped to elevate the status of portraiture and landscape painting during the 19th century.
