Workshop of Dieric Bouts
The Workshop of Dieric Bouts, active in the Netherlands during the 15th century, was a significant contributor to the Northern Renaissance. Dieric Bouts, born in 1415 and deceased in 1475, was a prominent painter whose workshop produced religious and secular works characterized by meticulous detail and a serene, contemplative quality. Bouts was appointed the official city painter of Leuven in 1468, a position that underscored his influence and reputation. His workshop was instrumental in disseminating the techniques and stylistic innovations of the Early Netherlandish painting tradition. The workshop's output, including altarpieces and devotional panels, played a crucial role in the development of linear perspective and the use of oil paint, impacting subsequent generations of artists.
