Biography:

Worthington Whittredge was an American painter born in 1820 and active until his death in 1910. He was associated with the Realism movement, focusing on landscapes and scenes of American life. Whittredge studied in Europe, where he was influenced by the works of the Hudson River School and the Barbizon School. He became known for his detailed and atmospheric depictions of nature, contributing significantly to the American landscape tradition. Whittredge also served as a member of the National Academy of Design and was involved in various art organizations throughout his career. His work remains an important part of the narrative of 19th-century American art.
