Yun Shouping 惲壽平
Yun Shouping, also known as Yun Nantian, was a Chinese artist born in 1633 and died in 1690. He was a prominent figure in the Qing Dynasty and is celebrated as one of the "Six Masters of the Early Qing Period." Yun Shouping was a leading exponent of the "flower-and-bird" painting genre, known for his delicate brushwork and vibrant use of color, which marked a departure from the monochrome ink tradition. His work significantly contributed to the development of the "boneless" style, which emphasized the use of washes over outlines. Yun's artistic philosophy and practice were deeply influenced by his scholarly background, and he was also a noted poet and calligrapher. His legacy endures in the continued appreciation and study of his paintings, which are considered masterpieces of Chinese art.
