Biography:

Juan Gris, born José Victoriano González-Pérez in Madrid, Spain, in 1887, was a prominent figure in the Cubist movement. Initially studying engineering, Gris shifted his focus to art, moving to Paris in 1906, where he became closely associated with leading avant-garde artists, including Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. His work is characterized by a refined and systematic approach to Cubism, often employing vibrant color palettes and intricate compositions. Gris's contributions to Cubism were significant, as he developed a distinctive style that emphasized clarity and order, influencing the movement's evolution. Despite his relatively short life, ending in 1927, Gris's legacy endures through his innovative exploration of form and structure. His works remain integral to the study of early 20th-century art, reflecting a unique synthesis of analytical and synthetic Cubism.
