Sebastiano del Piombo
Sebastiano del Piombo, born Sebastiano Luciani in 1485 in Venice, Italy, was a prominent painter of the Renaissance period. Initially trained in the Venetian tradition under Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione, Sebastiano later moved to Rome, where he became closely associated with Michelangelo. This collaboration significantly influenced his work, leading to a unique fusion of Venetian colorism and Roman monumental form. Sebastiano is best known for his portraits and religious compositions, such as "The Raising of Lazarus," which demonstrate his mastery of chiaroscuro and emotional depth. In 1531, he was appointed the Keeper of the Papal Seal, earning him the nickname "del Piombo." Sebastiano's work played a crucial role in the transition from the High Renaissance to Mannerism, leaving a lasting impact on the art of his time.
